School Climate measurement is essential in order to gain a clear understanding of how your community feels about their learning environment. The National School Climate Center hosts a research-based, youth focused survey called The Comprehensive School Climate Inventory. Our survey is a key component in our 5-stage school climate improvement process (see above).
We also created a checklist to help keep track of some key aspects of school climate measurement. We are happy to speak with you about any aspect of this list:
Preparing for Survey Administration
- Determine survey window
- Contact NSCC to set up your Comprehensive School Climate Inventory survey
- Host a survey administration orientation
- Begin outreach to the community
CSCI Administration
- Distribute CSCI survey
- Regular check-ins and track response rates
- Continue outreach
- Work through any challenges
Post CSCI Administration
- School/districts are given access to CSCI results within 1 week
- School/district works through exploring the data
- Explore the CSCI benchmarking data comparing your data to schools from around the USA
